About Keith Smaldon

Now a Senior Vice President of Business Development for USI/Goldman Sachs Capital Partners, Keith Smaldon directs the growth of new insurance clients in an extensive range of industries, including healthcare, real estate, and the PEO industry. Keith Smaldon specializes in alternative risk transfer and balance sheet liabilities. Responsible for the New England region, Keith Smaldon reports directly to USI/Goldman Sachs’ Regional CEO.


Keith Smaldon’s career started at Lloyd’s of London, where he spent eight years in an intensive apprenticeship that focused on United States and international affairs. After gaining invaluable experience in property reinsurance and professional liability, Keith Smaldon moved to the United States and started working with Sedgwick (now Marsh, Inc.) in 1989. Having secured continual double-digit annual growth for Sedgwick, Keith Smaldon began work with the Hays Companies in Boston, attaining profitability after only 18 months and securing a near 100 percent retention rate. In 2007, the retail brokerage firm Mazonson hired Keith Smaldon to help establish the firm as a strong contender in the aggressive New England middle market.


In addition to his impressive employment history and his copious practical experience, Keith Smaldon has a wealth of formal training. The College of Insurance in New York accredited Keith Smaldon in United States Commercial, Marine, and Personal Lines Insurance. The Chartered Insurance Institute in London has certified Keith Smaldon in Risk Management and Commercial Insurance. In addition, Keith Smaldon has pursued courses in branding and marketing at Harvard Business School in Cambridge, MA.


Keith Smaldon is a member of the CEO Club of Boston, the Treasurers’ Club of Boston, the Massachusetts Hospital Association, and the British-American Association. Keith Smaldon was previously a member of the Maine Hospital Association. A volunteer for United Way fundraisers and the Pine Street Inn for the homeless in Boston, Keith Smaldon is also a supporter of the Morris Animal Foundation, the New Gloucester Historical Society, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
